What is your name and type of injury? David Bailey, T4 paraplegic. How did you get interested in triathlons? "Watching it on TV in '84 Mark Allen hit the wall and Dave Scott passed him." How long have you participated in triathlons? "In 1997 I did a little triathlon and had to do Ironman." What's the first thing you did to prepare for your first triathlon? "I had a coach who was also my best friend, but we just winged it!" Can you give us an example of beginner's training week? " Two swims, two-three rides not more than 30 miles and two pushes. One ride is followed by a push to get used to transitioning fast and pushing after riding." What competitions have you taken part in? "Sprint triathlons for speed and fun - olympic distance - Lubbock TX 1/2 Ironman and Hawaii Ironman. Before that I raced chairs since around 1990." What equipment do you use? "Invacare/Top End." Have you suffered any injuries while racing? "No injuries." Are you sponsored? "Invacare gives me chairs and a bike." How did you obtain your sponsor? "I'm fairly popular so I can help develop and sell product, plus I was fast enough." Any words of inspiration for the beginning athlete? "Aim high!"
